Is Duke Nukem Forever Really That Bad?

Is Duke Nukem Forever worth the wait? No. Come on, Is Duke Nukem really that bad? Yes! So bad in fact that I am contemplating whether to complete it or just bury it in the garden. 14 years in development and it shows, The game is a mess from top to bottom and it really does feel like its been through 4-5 different studios. Not only does the game look horrible (and believe me, the game looks Horrible!) It is also incredibly boring. If this game had come out when it was supposed to then we would have been raving about DNF. The fact is that games have moved on since Duke Nukem 3D. Parts of the game grabbed your attention and make you believe that it is trying something different and unique. This only leads to frustration at repeating the same bits on several occasions. The saddest part for me is that Duke Nukem himself is no longer relevant any more. This stereotype just doesn't exist in this day and age. Repeatedly spouting phrases which are totally out of context with anything he is doing, parodies of film and games which were around years ago and to be frank, Duke just isn't that funny. The rest of the world has moved on, Sadly Duke hasn't.

Next Gen PS3 and Xbox will be 10x as Powerful

This very interesting interview from game legend John Carmack explains what he thinks about the next generation consoles and when they will be here.

"The next-generation of home consoles – the next Xbox and the PlayStation 4 – will be ten times as powerful as the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

That's according to programming legend John Carmack, who told Eurogamer that Microsoft and Sony's new consoles will "be here in a couple of years".

This week a new report suggested Microsoft will reveal its next xbox at E3 2012. A 2013 launch is rumoured to be in the works.

In March new job listings suggested Microsoft was ramping up development of its next generation Xbox console. The evidence seemed to suggest that the system is so early in development that the graphics hardware at the very least hadn't been locked down.

Sony, however, continues to push its ten-year lifecycle prediction for the PlayStation 3.

In fact Sony Computer Entertainment Europe boss Andrew House told Eurogamer at E3 last week that it's a case of "ten yeas plus".

"From a Sony perspective, we're very comfortable with PS3 and the way that market's developing," he said. "We're highly focused on launching Vita as a next-generation portable now some seven years after PSP was launched. We're really not looking at anything beyond that at this stage."

"The next-generation will be here soon, a couple of years," Carmack told Eurogamer in a new Rage interview.

"It'll be another ten times as powerful as this [PS3, Xbox 360]. I'd be surprised if that doesn't last over a decade before people wind up saying, well, we've really tapped out everything you could possibly do on there."

Carmack said that the next-generation will present game creators with a tough challenge: how do you make game graphics stand out?

"The better games get the harder you have to go to give a delta people care about. That's going to be a challenge for the next-generation of consoles, to show what pack-in title is going to look so much more awesome than what you get on the current ones that people want to go spend $300 on a new console.

"They'll be able to do it on the next generation, but it's going to be much harder."

Crysis 2 creator Crytek is thought to be making Timesplitters 4 for the next Xbox, using DirectX 11 in development"

Nintendo must of known this was going to happen?

60000 Lines of Dialogue For The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Just when I thought I couldn't get any more excited for this game, Eurogamer give us this little bit of information about Bethesda's new open world fantasy adventure.

"A few new tidbits of information on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim have sneaked out of Bethesda HQ, including news that the game contains 60,000 lines of voiced dialogue.

According to PC Gamer, the long-awaited RPG sequel will feature unlimited dragons that can attack at random as you explore the game world.

Wounded dragons will apparently be unable to fly, offering an opportunity to engage them on the ground, potentially giving you the upper hand.

Slaying dragons earns you special abilities called dragon shouts. A few examples offered include power-ups that give you fire breath, a lightning strike, the ability to slow down time or a speed boost.

The game's guard system is reportedly getting an overhaul. In contrast to previous games in the series, if you commit a crime in one region guards in a neighbouring area won't automatically be aware of it and collar you on sight.

Bethesda has also confirmed that horses will feature in the game, with improved handling promised over Oblivion. You'll also be able to hop in a carriage for speedy travel between regions or automatically skip to places you've already discovered.

Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood assassin's guild return, along with a thieves guild, a fighter's guild and a mage's guild.

Finally, Bethesda has promised a much larger voice cast has been signed up to deliver that whopping script than worked on Oblivion."

Thank god Mass Effect 3 was pushed back until 2012! Lord knows what would of happened if they were released around the same time.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is released on November 11, 2011
