Led Zeppelin Turn Down Guitar Hero Concept

The members of Led Zeppelin turned down the chance to become video game legends after the brains behind the Guitar Hero concept offered them a share of their empire.
Activision Blizzard Chief Executive Officer Bobby Kotick has said he tried to persuade the rockers to sign over their rights for a Guitar Hero – but they declined.
Kotick reveals that fans of the game made it clear to him that they wanted a Zeppelin-themed game, but he couldn’t convince former bandmates Jimmy Page and Robert Plant to sign off on a deal.
“We did the research and it was very clear people didn’t want more ’80s heavy metal music. But what they wanted was very difficult for us to get from the music companies. The number one thing that our audiences wanted in Guitar Hero was Led Zeppelin, but we couldn’t get Led Zeppelin to consent to give us the rights.”
Previous bands to have benfited from the Guitar Hero franchise are Aerosmith, Metallica and Van Halen.
Activision halted production and development on their once-popular Guitar Hero franchise in February 2011

Japanese Infamous 2 Trailer Released

Not only is inFamous 2 out and about, Japan also got a new trailer dropped on their laps from Sucker Punch and Sony.

The trailer runs three and some minutes, showing a bit more of what lead character Cole MacGrath will be going up against. Of course, as you may already know by now, you should be able to play either way, whether you prefer to be Cole as the hero, or as Cole the villain.

inFamous 2 came out earlier in June, but not before controversy sparked out after somebody claimed that they got their hands on a copy of it a couple of weeks before the actual launch date. Cole's busy making his superstar rounds too, as he's set to make an appearance in the upcoming Street Fighter X Tekken

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Too Expensive?

Would you buy Metal Gear Solid 2 again for $49.99? Well what about if I threw Metal Gear Solid 3 in there with it? I mean come on that's a great deal. No? Fine I'll throw in the PSP title Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker as well. Happy? Great, because this is the exactly what Konami are releasing later this year. Yes, Maybe it is a bit pricey but did I mention they will all be in glorious HD! Okay even if it does look anything like the God Of War HD Collection then it will still be a bit too expensive but Konami know, there are enough die hard Snake fans out there to make this offer worth while.

L.A. Noire Seven Year Production Hell

L.A. Noire is so far my favourite game of the year, It could even be one of my favourite games of all time. A delicate balance of impressive detective work, fantastic chase scenes, movie like storylines and all round incredible game world that Team Bondi created. Yes they must be incredibly proud of what they achieved, but it seems that things were not always rosy within the studio. A great article from Owen Good at Kotaku explains the bad times of working on a game that spans seven years.

Owen Good, Kotaku

It took seven years. It spanned two console generations. It was the biggest undertaking in Australian games development. And the seven years it took to bring L.A. Noire to store shelves was consistently an unhappy time for many who worked on the game, reports IGN.
The freelance journalist Andrew McMillen, writing for IGN, gives a comprehensive look at L.A. Noire's development, with stinging criticism from former Team Bondi staff and remarkably candid replies by the studio's founder, Brendan McNamara. Throughout, Team Bondi is depicted as a contentious studio populated by exhausted developers perpetually in the throes of "crunch," an industry term and one of its nastier little secrets.
McNamara, to his credit, does not evade questions with corporate speak. Asked to account for turnover that saw at least 100 staff enter and leave the studio during Noire's making, McNamara replied that he thought the figure was actually higher than that. "Of the people we tried to build the game with, most of them would've never had any experience with this kind of thing before," he said.
He also doesn't run from anonymous-sourced complaints about his management style, which some called verbally abusive. "Am I passionate about making the game? Absolutely," he said to McMillen. "Do you think that I'm going to voice my opinion? Absolutely. But I don't think that's verbal abuse."
More troubling are the allegations IGN reports of unpaid overtime and manipulated job titles that dumped multiple job descriptions and 110-hour workweeks on some at insubstantial salaries. (The story alleges that overtime would only be paid out three months after the game was completed, requiring everyone to stay in order to be paid for that.) This is a common complaint in games development, especially here in the U.S. McNamara chalks up the workers' unhappiness to their disillusionment about what kind of field this is, and what it really means to be competitive in it.
"The expectation is slightly weird here, that you can do this stuff without killing yourself; well, you can't," McNamara told McMillen. "Whether it's in London or New York or wherever; you're competing against the best people in the world at what they do, and you just have to be prepared to do what you have to do to compete against those people."
Crunch is not a virtue. It's poor management coupled with abusive labor practice. Games development is shot through with the attitude that it's OK. We saw it when Danny Bilson of THQ casually remarked on the "thousand-yard stare" of Kaos Studios after two months of seven-day workweeks, making Homefront. (Kaos' ultimate reward:Studio closure and the project being shipped to Montreal.) And they get away with it because the layperson conceives of video games development as a Wonkaland of fun that anyone should feel lucky just to be a part of. That, and the lines of developers waiting at the door for the next disgruntled employee to quit, help keep things solidly in the favor of ownership.
"There's a lot of naivety amongst young game programmers out there," said one unnamed Bondi developer. "There's all this young enthusiasm to get into the games industry. People are willing to do so much to do it, but they're not educated about how they really should be standing up for themselves, and making sure that the conditions are right."
Thank you Team Bondi, Thank you.

No European Playstation Vita In 2011

Want a Playstation Vita? Can't wait till Christmas morning so you can rush downstairs, rip that wrapping paper open and get your fiddly little fingers on one? Well I have bad news for you. If CVG and VG247 are to be believed then Sony will not be releasing the PS Vita in Europe until 2012, Sure to disappoint millions who cannot wait to see if this new handheld is the real deal. It seems that us Europeans will have to look over in envy at those North Americans who will get a release before the end of the year along with the Japanese. Its a long time to wait.. Maybe a 3DS for Christmas instead.

The PS Vita is priced at £239/289 in the UK, €249/€299 for the Euro users and £249/£299 for those lucky Americans.

Lulz Security Hackers Retirement Parting Gift

It kind of reminds me of a girlfriend who is leaving you, Just as she is walking out of the door, She tells you she's fucked your dad. She could have left it there and gone from your life forever but she thought why the hell not. I'm breaking his heart so why not break it that little bit more? Well Hacking Group Lulz Security have done the equivalent with there latest and final hack. I could explain it but I would not do it justice. So I will let CVG explain.

Notorious hacking group LulzSec has announced its 'retirement' from illegal activity, as it releases the details of half a million subscribers of EA online title Battlefield Heroes.

The group has hit headlines in the past two months for breaching the security of companies including Fox.com, Sony, Bethesda and the owners of EVE Online, releasing millions of personal user details.

As its final act, the group yesterday released a new file with half a Gigabyte of user information. It contained data from telecommunication company AT&T, as well as the IP addresses of corporations including Sony, Viacom, Disney, EMI and NBC Universal.

It also reportedly spilled details of 200,000 email addresses, usernames, and encrypted passwords from hackforums.net; 12,000 names, usernames, and passwords of the NATO online bookshop; 550,000 usernames and encrypted passwords from EA's Battlefield Heroes; 50,000 usernames, email addresses, and encrypted passwords of various video game forum users; and 29 users of Priority Investigations, an Irish private investigation company.

A statement released today read:

Friends around the globe,

We are Lulz Security, and this is our final release, as today marks something meaningful to us. 50 days ago, we set sail with our humble ship on an uneasy and brutal ocean: the Internet. The hate machine, the love machine, the machine powered by many machines. We are all part of it, helping it grow, and helping it grow on us.

For the past 50 days we've been disrupting and exposing corporations, governments, often the general population itself, and quite possibly everything in between, just because we could. All to selflessly entertain others - vanity, fame, recognition, all of these things are shadowed by our desire for that which we all love. The raw, uninterrupted, chaotic thrill of entertainment and anarchy. It's what we all crave, even the seemingly lifeless politicians and emotionless, middle-aged self-titled failures. You are not failures. You have not blown away. You can get what you want and you are worth having it, believe in yourself.

While we are responsible for everything that The Lulz Boat is, we are not tied to this identity permanently. Behind this jolly visage of rainbows and top hats, we are people. People with a preference for music, a preference for food; we have varying taste in clothes and television, we are just like you. Even Hitler and Osama Bin Laden had these unique variations and style, and isn't that interesting to know? The mediocre painter turned supervillain liked cats more than we did.

Again, behind the mask, behind the insanity and mayhem, we truly believe in the AntiSec movement. We believe in it so strongly that we brought it back, much to the dismay of those looking for more anarchic lulz. We hope, wish, even beg, that the movement manifests itself into a revolution that can continue on without us. The support we've gathered for it in such a short space of time is truly overwhelming, and not to mention humbling. Please don't stop. Together, united, we can stomp down our common oppressors and imbue ourselves with the power and freedom we deserve.

So with those last thoughts, it's time to say bon voyage. Our planned 50 day cruise has expired, and we must now sail into the distance, leaving behind - we hope - inspiration, fear, denial, happiness, approval, disapproval, mockery, embarrassment, thoughtfulness, jealousy, hate, even love. If anything, we hope we had a microscopic impact on someone, somewhere. Anywhere.

Thank you for sailing with us. The breeze is fresh and the sun is setting, so now we head for the horizon.

Let it flow...

Lulz Security - our crew of six wishes you a happy 2011, and a shout-out to all of our battlefleet members and supporters across the globe.

Errrr you'll be missed?

Rockstar's Agent On It's Way to Xbox 360

Agent was revealed in 2009 at E3, but since then Rockstar has been very quiet regarding this mysterious title. At the E3 press conference it was made very clear that the plans for the game were for it to be released on PlayStation 3 only, however news from MSXBox-World shows that there may be a broadening of these plans and a lowering of the barriers to entry for Microsoft.
With the recent release of L.A Noire being for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, you would be shocked to hear, if you did not know already, that this title was also thought to have a single console release. Sony were the first to confirm the title’s release whereas there was no signal from Microsoft, however in the end it was released for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, which makes us wonder whether developers and publishers are not as keen to bring titles exclusively to Sony’s console as they once were.
The source reveals that when in question regarding Agent’s platform release details, the Sony Computer Entertainment president Jack Tretton replied, “I don’t know where we’re going to end up on that”. Further suspicions arose when more questioning revealed that Tretton implied that the PlayStation 3 title would definitely offer the best content (or words to that effect), surely if it was a PS3 exclusive this would be a given?
Although the claims are fairly weak still and the game is very much in the pipeline stages, details of the issue remain very quiet and nothing was revealed this month at E3 2011. The official Agent website still infers that the game will be exclusive to PlayStation 3 (see below), therefore for now we will have to assume that this is the case, however don’t be too surprised if things change.
At the moment we are keeping an eye out for any more details regarding game, however the way things look, we anticipate that a multi-platform release will be more likely. Sony’s president says that “it is up to Rockstar as to what happens now”, which we think are very weak words from a huge corporation such as themselves. We can only wait and see what the outcome will be. What do you think of the plans? Would you like to see Agent on the Xbox 360?

Rumour Mill: Sony Planning On Unveiling Playstation 4 Next Year

Rumours, Rumours Rumours. I suppose every console starts with a rumour so sometime we have to take them serious. IndustryGamers is speculating that Sony will unveil the Playstation 4 next year. The Website cites from an anonymous source from a top developer, although obviously no names were spoken of.
This is what Michel Patcher had to say about it.

“I think it’s unlikely [that PS4 will be announced in 2012]. Wii U isn’t going to pressure anyone, it’s Nintendo’s catch up to this cycle, and the other guys are going to see if the tablet integration is worth copying first. That means nobody is going to finalize specs till they see if Wii U succeeds. I am sticking to 2014, so an ‘unveil’ in 2013,”

EEDAR’s Jesse Divinch added: “The interactive entertainment industry is rapidly evolving and broadening. No longer is the idea of ‘video games’ limited to a traditional console and a PlayStation-style controller and the inability to play these touch and social games on traditional consoles are hindering factors for all three major players.
“Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo all have a similar goal; they want their consoles to be constantly powered on in the household – from watching movies, television, and of course playing games. But as the mobile, tablet, and social sector grow, it is forcing gamers to go outside of the traditional console experience to interact with these emerging style of games. Of course, I do admit that Microsoft is certainly the forerunner and their recent E3 2011 presentation certainly paints a clear picture that the future of consoles are not ‘video game consoles,’ but a complete entertainment medium.
“I don’t feel the Wii U is a threat to either Microsoft or Sony’s current platforms. I believe the biggest threat remain themselves and their attempt to elongate this current cycle. The data is pretty clear; it is incredibly tough to launch successful new IPs late in a cycle, as there is simply too much consumer muscle memory that hinders our desire to play new IPs. Consumers are more open to trying new IPs and new style of games when the technology itself is relatively new. It is very tough for consumers to break habit.
“Just ask yourself, would Avatar have been as successful if it wasn’t in 3D (which at the time was a new way of experiencing movies)? Would Avatar have been successful if it launched 2 years from now? Probably not, on both counts.”

Two Big Titles Set To Hit XBLA, PSN Store's Next Week

One must commend Sony and the PlayStation Store team for getting so much content out in such a timely manner in the last few weeks. A barrage of PSN titles, demos, trailers, and so much more have hit the store since it was brought back online in late May. Though some big releases haven’t hit PSN yet, Sony has confirmed a couple of games will see release next week that fans have been asking about now for weeks.
The first title confirmed to be arriving on the PlayStation Store next week is EA and Vanguard’s Gatling Gears. Gathering much praise since its release on XBLA, Gatling Gears is a unique and fun title that is designed to appeal to gamers of all ages. Delivered as a top-down shooter, the game's vivid graphics and expansive level design is great for local and online co-op play with friends.  Fans of titles like Dead Nation or Super Stardust HD should look into Gatling Gears.
Secondly, Ubisoft’s Beyond Good and Evil HD will finally arrive on PSN next week. The wait for this title has been a very long one for PS3-only owners. Any fan of the original PS2, Xbox, or PC version of Beyond Good and Evil should put money aside to pick the title up next week when it lands on PSN.

Sega says 1.3million Users Affected By Hack Attack

Japanese video game developer Sega Corp said on Sunday that information belonging to 1.3 million customers has been stolen from its database, the latest in a rash of global cyber attacks against video game companies.
Names, birth dates, e-mail addresses and encrypted passwords of users of Sega Pass online network members had been compromised, Sega said in a statement, though payment data such as credit card numbers was safe. Sega Pass had been shut down.
"We are deeply sorry for causing trouble to our customers. We want to work on strengthening security," said Yoko Nagasawa, a Sega spokeswoman, adding it is unclear when the firm would restart Sega Pass.
The attack against Sega, a division of Sega Sammy Holdings that makes game software such as Sonic the Hedgehog as well as slot machines, follows other recent significant breaches including Citigroup, which said over 360,000 accounts were hit in May, and the International Monetary Fund.
The drama surrounding the recent round of video game breaches paled compared to what PlayStation maker Sony Corp experienced following two high-profile attacks that surfaced in April.
Those breaches led to the theft of account data for more than 100 million customers, making it the largest ever hacking of data outside the financial services industry.
Sega Europe, a division of Sega that runs the Sega Pass network, immediately notified Sega and the network customers after it found out about the breach on Thursday, Nagasawa said.
Lulz Security, a group of hackers that has launched cyber attacks against other video game companies including Nintendo, has unexpectedly offered to track down and punish the hackers who broke into Sega's database.

Killzone 3 DLC "From The Ashes" Dated

Killzone 3 is one of the harder hitting exclusives that the PlayStation 3 currently has despite receiving mixed receptions. Having been launched just a few months ago it’s no surprise that Guerrilla Games continues to support the game releasing DLC packs here and there. In fact, it was just made known that Killzone 3 will be getting yet another DLC pack dubbed From the Ashes come June 21st for $5.

From the Ashes will bring with it 4 brand new maps for the game’s multiplayer component two being dubbed Missile Base and Mobile Factory. Unfortunately neither Sony nor Guerrilla Games would comment on what the final 2 maps will be called but we’re sure to hear more as the time goes on.
If you missed out on previous Killzone 3 DLC but are looking to remedy that you’re in luck as Sony also took the time to let us know that all previous DLC will be included in a pack (along with From the Ashes) on June 21st for $10.

Crytek Deny Having Next-Gen Xbox Hardware

A slur of rumours hit the web the last couple of weeks, that Crytek had been fiddling around with next-gen microsoft hardware. Leading to speculation that the Xbox 720 (Allegedly) wasn't too far from being announced. Apparantly this is not the case. Crytek recently sent a statement to IGN denying this very subject.

"Relating to the recent rumours, Crytek do not have any next generation hardware from Microsoft, nor do we know when Microsoft may announce future hardware or what that hardware will entail.

Crytek are working at pushing the boundaries of what current technology can bring, including our focus on DX11 which will be released shortly as an update for Crysis 2, and we believe this work, added to our estimations of what the new hardware will provide, set up CryENGINE as a next generation engine for all consoles"

It seems the wait for next-gen hardware is still some way off, With speculation that Microsoft and Sony are targeting 2014 to release there all new consoles to the world.

Sweet Tooths Back!

There's something I love about a childhood reboot. Forget all the sequels and add ons, Just good old fashioned reboot. No more Tomb Raider: Curse of the sword or Ultimate Mortal Kombat, Just plain old Tomb Raider and Mortal Kombat. It has a hint that developers know they fucked up somewhere and are now taking extra care to bring back to series you loved all them years ago. Which is why I was ecstatic when Twisted Metal was announced at last years E3. Just Twisted Metal! Finally one of my childhood favourites is coming back to me. So when Sony released this Sweet tooth trailer I can't explain the excitement in my little brain! Lets just hope they do the series justice.

Daily Gaming News 03/06/2011 Pt 1

HD Collections

Nostalgia.. Its a wonderful thing. So when Sony released there much loved God Of War Collection last year with a sexy new HD look, Fans around the world rejoiced. Kratos showed that its not just for nostalgia value that we should delve into the back of our dusty cupboards and re play some of these classics, but that they can sometimes stand the test of time and still be relevant today. Seeing as it sold like hot cakes, It was only going to be some time before more beloved child hood memories were re-lived. The next shiny gems to get the HD Makeover is the Metal Gear Solid franchise followed by survival horror favourite Silent Hill. There is no news yet to how many games in the franchise will be released but for Konami fans, this is a wonderful thing to sink your teeth back into. With the Beautiful Japanese classic ICO and Shadow of the Colossus also in the works, Its hard to imagine why this stroke of genius wasn't thought of sooner.

Rage Trailer

Bethesda definitely hit some high notes with the Fallout franchise. One of them things sadly, was not the gameplay. At times it felt like the engine was unfinished and had aged over night. ID it seems does not share them problems when it comes to those clunky gameplay mechanics. Judging by the trailer, Bethesda looks to have a real winner on there hands in the form of Rage. In "The Well" ID and Bethesda take you into the town of Wellspring as its being terrorized by a bandit clan threatening to poison the towns water supply. The trailer shows us what type of gameplay we can expect and I for one am very expected about this September release.

Fifa 12 E3 Trailer

E3 is upon us and EA are treating us a little bit early with this brand new Fifa 12 trailer, showing of there new features. The Player Impact Engine was discussed in yesterdays blog so for more news on Fifa 12, Check it out.

Xbox History

Microsoft has announced that they have officially sold over 55 million consoles worldwide (Thanks to the red ring of death) So well done to them. This is seriously a fantastic achievement and it just goes to show that even though Sony are going through a hard time right now, Microsoft don't mind sticking up two rather large cash shaped fingers at them.

Tomb Raider Reboot

Alright. Okay. I’m not sure there’s any conceivable way that Crystal Dynamics’ forthcoming reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise could be half as arresting and gorgeous as this trailer. Tell you what, though. I’m looking forward to seeing them try. What I’m thinking, considering the first screenshots of the Tomb Raider reboot appeared back in January, the quality of this trailer, and that the game’s still slated for a release as far in the future as Q3 2012, is that Square Enix have given Crystal Dynamics a similarly sized budget. If that’s the case, this could end up something very special indeed.
